	blockquote.epigraph
p “Perhaps, if i had it to do over again, i would not choose to celebrate communion. Although it was a deeply meaningful experience for me, it was a Christian sacrament, and we had come to the moon in the name of all mankind – be they Christians, Jews, Muslims, animists, agnostics, or atheists. But at the time i could think of no better way to acknowledge the enormity of the Apollo 11 experience than by giving thanks to God.”

p #[b Eugene Edwin Aldrin junior] (20 January 1930–7 August 2024), known universally as #[b Buzz Aldrin], was an American astronaut, engineer, and pastor, best known as the second person to ever walk on the Selenean surface.
p Top of his class in the U.S.’s military academy, Buzz first proved his mettle as a fighter pilot in the Korean War before being selected for Nasa’s élite #[i Gemini] programme, performing several spacewalks on its final mission. He was subsequently chosen for the all-veteran crew of #[i Apollo 11], the apex of the first Space Race; on that fateful day in 1969, he and Neil Armstrong left humanity’s first bootprints on Earth’s moon.
